“This Old House,” the PBS home-improvement and remodeling
television show, was in Manasquan, NJ Tuesday to film the installation of a
hurricane-proof, custom modular home by Zarilli Homes and manufactured by
Excel Homes.

“We came down to the Shore and we decided we wanted to tell
the story,”
said Richard Trethewey, heating and plumbing expert for the show.
“We never imagined the level of destruction. We don’t want America to forget.”

The house is on East
Main Street
. and belongs to Rita Gurry. Her former
home, which sat at the same location, was demolished as a result of damage from
Sandy.

“I had a little Cape that
was built in 1940. I bought it 15 years ago and had just paid it off last
September,”
Gurry said. “A month later Sandy
came to town and I had 3 ½ feet of water in my home.”

Her new residence, a Cape
with a Salt Box shape roof, was built by Zarrilli Homes, located in Brick, NJ.

“I didn’t want to deal with all the individual contractors.
The last seven months have been grueling, but Zarilli made this a cakewalk,”

Gurry said. That’s why she chose to go with Zarilli Homes.

Anthony Zarilli, owner of Zarilli Homes, said the house was
fabricated in Liverpool, Pa., and delivered to the site Tuesday in
two boxed sections. It was placed on a foundation of 37 pilings.

The home was delivered at 8 a.m. and by noon it was already set
on its foundation. It has four bedrooms, and 2½  baths.

According the show’s host, Kevin O’Connor, who is originally
from New Jersey,
prefab homes might become very popular during rebuilding.

“We’ve told the modular home story before. But my thoughts
is you’re going to see a lot more folks down the Shore doing this because of
the efficiency, speed and cost,”
O’Connor said. PBS will release the show for
airing on Oct. 3.
