I travel Interstate 81 almost daily in Maryland. It is the main North-South route for modular home carriers going South from central PA where there is a large group of modular home factories. Only one company has thought to market their product on the outside of the wrapping around the module.

.

I suspect there is a reason none of the other factories do not market their modules with their brand name but for the life of me, I can’t imagine why.

Do the disadvantages of using the wrapping around the modules to promote the factory outweigh the advantages? Who knows?

The Free Advertising That’s Driving Right Past You

Imagine this: You’re cruising down Interstate 81, sipping your coffee, and suddenly you’re overtaken by a colossal rectangular block on wheels. It’s wrapped in what appears to be the largest, saddest plastic wrapper you’ve ever seen. If only it had a splash of color or a catchy slogan. Perhaps, “Your Future Dream Home Inside!” or “Honk If You Love Modular Homes!” Alas, it’s just another missed opportunity in the modular home marketing world.

Advantages: The Moving Billboards of Modular Homes

Free Advertising: Picture it—your brand zooming past thousands of potential customers every day. It’s like a parade float, but instead of candy, it’s throwing out homeownership dreams. And the best part? You don’t need to pay a dime more for these rolling billboards.

Brand Recognition: Think about it—repeated exposure to your logo as commuters repeatedly get stuck behind your convoy. By the third sighting, they’ll be dreaming of your homes. It’s advertising that sticks with you, quite literally, on the highway.

Public Awareness: Many people still think modular homes are just glorified mobile homes. Slap some eye-catching graphics and facts on those modules, and suddenly, you’re educating the masses at 65 mph. “Yes, Margaret, that is a modular home. And yes, they’re built to withstand zombie apocalypses!”

Customer Engagement: Your website, phone number, or social media handles could be plastered all over these moving marvels. “Stuck in traffic? Check out our Instagram for house inspo!” Add large QR codes!

Competitive Edge: If your competitors are still wrapping their homes in drab white plastic, you have a golden opportunity to stand out. Be the flamboyant peacock in a flock of boring pigeons.

Disadvantages: The (Tiny) Speed Bumps

Cost: Sure, there’s a cost to printing and applying these branded wraps. But think of it as an investment. Besides, compared to traditional advertising costs, it’s peanuts.

Durability: Your wraps need to be as tough as the homes they cover. After all, no one wants to see your brand peeling off in the rain. Use quality materials that can brave the elements, and you’re golden.

Logistics: Wrapping every module might won’t add time to the process. But let’s be honest—if you can build a house in a factory, you can figure out how to slap a sticker on it or use plastic wrap imprinted with your logo.

Permits and Regulations: Advertising laws can be tricky, but nothing a good legal team can’t navigate. “Officer, I swear it’s just a house ad, not a political statement!”

Branding Consistency: Ensure all wraps are pristine and uniform. Keep them clean, and you’ll be fine.

Modcoach Note

In a world where everyone is fighting for eyeballs, why would you let such an obvious opportunity drive by? Modular home factories, it’s time to step up your game. Embrace the moving billboard. Be the brand that people recognize, the one they talk about at dinner parties. “Did you see that incredible house on wheels today? I want one!”

So, modular home factories, take this as your call to action. Let’s make the highways a little more colorful and a lot more informative. Because if you’re not advertising on your wrapping, you’re just wasting perfectly good billboard space.
