British Columbia is making a bold move to combat its housing shortage by introducing a new generation of standardized multi-plex modular homes. Designed to streamline construction and reduce costs, these innovative four-plex and six-plex models are now available for use across the province—marking a major step forward in delivering faster, more affordable housing solutions to communities in need.

.
The project is a joint effort between the provincial government, Modular Building Institute of B.C., and the Union of B.C. Municipalities. By offering pre-approved, ready-to-deploy modular designs, the initiative aims to cut red tape, ease zoning approvals, and speed up the timeline from concept to completion. These multi-plex homes are designed to fit seamlessly into urban and rural neighborhoods, making them a practical option for both small towns and large cities.
Beyond the efficiencies, this initiative represents a fresh mindset—one where housing can be both accessible and adaptable. With a focus on quality, flexibility, and repeatability, B.C.’s standardized modular designs could become a blueprint for how other regions approach affordable housing development.
