In a bold move to reshape one of North Philadelphia’s most neglected parcels of land, Mayor Cherelle Parker has unveiled plans that could transform the long-vacant Logan Triangle into a hub for modern homebuilding. Once dotted with nearly 1,000 homes that were demolished decades ago due to unstable, sinking soil, the 35-acre site could soon host a modular housing factory as part of the city’s ambitious housing strategy.

The proposal comes under the umbrella of Parker’s $2 billion Housing Opportunities Made Easy (H.O.M.E.) initiative, a plan designed to preserve and create 30,000 housing units across Philadelphia and tackle the city’s persistent affordability challenges. Rather than letting the Triangle remain an underused scar of past development failures, city officials are now seeking industry input on what it would take to build and operate facilities capable of producing pre-built housing components right in the heart of the city.
City leaders say the vision extends beyond just building homes: it’s about turning neglected spaces into engines of economic opportunity and community revitalization, with additional sites such as vacant school buildings under consideration for similar projects. If successful, the initiative could signal a new chapter in how Philadelphia confronts housing shortages while generating local jobs in construction and manufacturing.
