A Houston-based company prepares to breathe new life into a long-dormant industrial site. With papers signed and plans set in motion, Gated Rentals, a company dedicated to developing, owning, and operating short-term weekly rental communities, is set to begin building small manufactured homes. This venture is expected to create 50 new jobs initially, marking a positive economic impact for the area.

Gated Rentals is ready to initiate operations at the site of the former Louisiana Pacific Plywood Mill, situated on the east side of town along Highway 63 East, near the intersection of Highway 190. The Jasper, TX location, with its dual highway access and proximity to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad, offers strategic advantages for manufacturing and logistics.

Historical Significance

The site holds a rich industrial history. Originally constructed and operated by Owens-Illinois Corporation as a plywood mill in the early 1970s, it later changed hands to the L-P Corporation before ceasing operations in May 1997. The reopening of this site by Gated Rentals symbolizes a revival of the area’s industrial heritage, transforming a once-vacant mill into a hub of modern manufacturing.

Economic Impact and Future Plans

While the initial focus is on the greater Houston area, the company aims to expand its footprint across Texas, establishing a network of short-term rental communities. The creation of 50 jobs is just the beginning, with potential for further employment opportunities as operations scale up.

The redevelopment of the old plywood mill site into a state-of-the-art manufacturing plant aligns with Gated Rentals’ mission to innovate and expand within the housing sector. This strategic move not only supports the local economy but also addresses the growing demand for affordable, manufactured housing in Texas.

As Gated Rentals prepares to break ground, the community can look forward to a resurgence of industrial activity and economic growth, driven by this forward-thinking venture.
