Every once in a while, a modular home comes along that makes you do a double take—not just because of how stunning it looks, but because it challenges everything people think they know about prefab. That’s exactly why this 2,000-square-foot modular ranch perched on the scenic North Fork of Long Island earns my pick for July’s Home of the Month. Designed by the always-visionary team at Resolution: 4 Architecture (RES4) and built by Signature Building Systems, this Riverhead retreat is a masterclass in blending modern aesthetics with smart modular engineering.
Built for two families looking to share a vacation home without sacrificing privacy, the layout is a clever I-shape: two private bedroom wings on either side of a central open-concept living space. It’s a design that fosters togetherness when you want it—and quiet separation when you don’t. And let’s face it, anyone who’s vacationed with extended family knows that having your own wing is more than a luxury—it’s a survival strategy.
Signature Building Systems crafted the five precision-built modules in their Pennsylvania facility before shipping them to the site, where Teresi Construction handled the finishing work. The result? A seamless collaboration that shows how modular can achieve custom, high-end results while solving some pretty tricky site challenges along the way.

And those challenges were no joke. With Peconic Bay to the south and a creek flanking the east and north, this wasn’t your average patch of land. Setbacks were tight, the environmental impact had to be minimal, and access was limited. But this is where modular truly shines. By keeping the bulk of the build offsite, the team was able to reduce disruption, meet logistical hurdles head-on, and deliver a home that looks like it grew right out of the landscape.
This Riverhead home is proof that modular is more than just fast and efficient—it’s thoughtful, beautiful, and capable of delivering architectural sophistication in even the most demanding locations. Hats off to RES4, Signature Building Systems, and Teresi Construction for showing the world what modular magic really looks like.
