Pittsburgh International Airport is doing something a little unusual and quite amazing. It is offering a free 6 week training course in many fields of construction to anyone that wants it.

PIT 2 WORK is an extensive construction training program encompassing a range of trades, currently taking place at the new terminal construction site at Pittsburgh International Airport.
This immersive six-week experience provides a comprehensive understanding of construction, offering participants a unique opportunity to learn while contributing to the creation of Pittsburgh International Airport’s new terminal.
PIT2Work serves as an expressway to obtaining trade certifications. This program, located at Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) and centered around the Terminal Modernization Program (TMP) – our term for the comprehensive construction of our brand-new terminal and associated elements – is a six-week training opportunity that plunges you directly into exploring the trades and acquiring the skills necessary to elevate your career.

Bob Kerlick, a spokesperson for Pittsburgh International Airport, explains that the program provides diverse job-shadowing and learning opportunities. It serves as a valuable link between the airport and the local community, helping to create new job opportunities.
Kerlick emphasizes, “The airport is deeply committed to overcoming obstacles to entry and accessibility. It is crucial to us that our workforce mirrors the community we serve. In collaboration with our partners, we’ve developed PIT 2 WORK, a no-cost training initiative aiming to connect the community with the new construction project at the airport and the building trades.”
This program is purpose-built for those keen to learn and grow, whether they’re students seeking to pick up new skills during the summer break, or experienced tradespeople looking to further progress in their fields.
Open to all interested individuals, PIT 2 WORK offers support with childcare, public transit accessibility, and even provides a modest stipend.
“We have a myriad of trades here, including carpenters, laborers, plumbers, painters,” says Kerlick. “The PIT 2 WORK program aims to encompass all these trades.”
