You would think that people on the West Coast, especially in a city like Menlo Park, CA would welcome the “box” look of a prefab home into their neighborhood. And you would also think that with all of Blu Homes’ massive advertising budget pumping millions into promoting the boxy look that everyone would know what a modular or prefab home is.
Well guess what my modular builder friends! Those liberal minded CA people don’t like prefab any more than a double wide being built in the middle of those million dollar homes in Arlington, VA. The Menlo Park “The Almanac” tries to write a nice story about the home and than blows it in the last line.
Irontown Homes built the modules and Sustana Homes was the builder that completed on-site work.

The home going up at
first floor and four on the second, with a garage that’s probably going to be
assembled on-site.
The modules for this spec home were built in Spanish Fork,
After six weeks of finish work, including connecting the utilities, project
hard costs will be about 15 percent lower than normal and will have been
completed “substantially faster” than normal, Will Capper of Sustana
Homes in Los Gatos told the Almanac.
Modular homes are not a new idea, and trends wax and wane,
Mr. Capper said. This one will have interior amenities on the upper end of the
spectrum, he said.
Among the key differences when compared to a mobile home:
the owner of a modular home pays property taxes and does not have to register
it with the DMV.

Modular homes have a lot of potential and much less
construction impact on he neighbors. However in this case I pity the neighbor
on Middle who now has a two story straight-up prison wall next to his property.
Can’t believe the planning commission and department allowed that type of
second story w/o requiring it to be set back from the first floor. Typical of
our planning dept and commission.
Guessing it’s a spec house if ownership is as suspected.
