Tommy Rakes, CEO, Guerdon Modular Buildings
The CEO’s response highlights the challenges that construction firms face when operating in high-profile communities, where public perception and regulatory scrutiny often shape discussions about growth and development. He underscores the importance of responsible construction practices and fair reporting, advocating for a more nuanced conversation about the industry’s role in economic progress. Through his piece, he invites readers to consider the complexities behind construction projects and the broader impact of media narratives on businesses and communities alike.
Here is Tommy Rakes opinion piece for the Aspen Daily News:
In the construction industry, challenges are unavoidable. Materials can fail, timelines can shift and unexpected issues may arise at any time. What distinguishes a company is how it navigates those moments when things do not go as expected. At Guerdon, our philosophy centers on the belief that our success is intrinsically linked to the success of our clients — even if it means shouldering burdens beyond our responsibilities.
A recent modular housing project in Aspen tested this philosophy in real time. As highlighted by Lucy Peterson in an article (“BG3 modular home manufacturer misses settlement payment to city,” Dec. 14, 2024, Aspen Daily News) the project encountered notable delays due to the necessity of replacing defective windows — a crucial component of the construction. These windows were specified by the architect and chosen by the city of Aspen as the project owner. However, Ms. Peterson’s article fails to capture the complete narrative.
