a modular and HUD home factory that sells primarily direct to the end consumer
is expanding into man camps for the energy and mining industries.
Homark Homes, an employee-owned company, is constructing
modular “man camps” and even motels at its
them on site, across the U.S.-Canadian border.
The company is just finishing a $3.6 million contract for
two dormitory-style buildings for a Goldcorp Inc. gold mine near Musselwhite,
Ont., some 650 miles northeast of
or 450 miles north of
Ont. There must be a lot of money in “man camps” to be able to ship them 650
miles; a two day trip with at least a one day layover and a two day return
trip, not including the cost of the escort cars.
“That’s almost half our business this year,” said James
Hassel, sales manager.
Each building at Musselwhite consists of 16 separate modular
units built in
then shipped to
where they are being connected to form a two-story,
28-foot-wide-by-282-foot-long, residence hall with interior stairwells.
Homark also recently completed a 25-room, 45-by-188-foot
motel for a developer in
near the eastern edge of the gushing Bakken Formation Oil Patch.
