Bird Construction is one of Canada’s oldest and largest general contractors with revenues approaching $1B this year. They are into everything that can be built for the commercial and industrial industries.
In September 2017, Bird announced it had acquired 50 per cent of the outstanding shares of Stack Modular Structures Ltd. and 50 per cent of Stack Modular Structures Hong Kong Limited.
Stack produces steel frame modules for permanent construction suited for the hotel, senior housing, office space and general housing sectors in the North American market, the release indicates.
The commercial modular market in the US is beginning to explode and to fill this need, foreign companies like Bird Construction will expand from their northern roots and head south across the border. Stack Modular will be the pointy end of the spear.
Commercial modular companies from Spain, China, Germany and Poland are already here building factories and importing modules. The US based modular industry will soon have to play catch-up if it wants to be part of this explosion.
