Harris Woodward, Finish Werks, one of the featured speakers at the January 24th Symposium in Lewisburg, PA on “The Future of Modular in the East” is well known for building custom High Performance modular homes in Maryland.
Here is his description of his topic at the Symposium.
“Remember the
nutty-professor types that installed solar panels back in the 70’s when there
was no ROI? Or when the Carter administration told us to wear our sweaters
indoors? Neither of these periods witnessed a concerted effort by American home
builders to increase energy efficiency. In fact, many argue that building
quality actually went down. It wasn’t until the early 2000’s when oil prices
began to rise again that a serious movement was launched, and since then, high
performance (“green”) construction has really taken off.

modular industry – both factories and builders – can participate in the
meteoric rise in demand for better homes, simply and effectively; massive innovation not required. Using
typical off-the-shelf building materials, and with little planning and plenty

only costs less to live in from month one, but also delivers the valuable
upsides of a Zero Energy Ready modular home. I’ll show you how they do it.“
Harris Woodward started
Finish Werks in 2004 as a way to build better homes, faster, and quickly
realized how modular construction, effectively designed, could accelerate
differentiation with site built homes. He refocused this emphasis from green
building to high performance, recognizing demand for real energy savings over
other esoteric green features. This approach has led to better margins and more

industry.
